SANFORD, Fla. – Garth Brooks is bringing his Dive Bar Tour to Central Florida in October.
There are seven stops on the tour, and Brooks selected The Barn in Sanford as one of them.
On Oct. 16 at 8 p.m., Brooks will delight his Florida fans with an intimate show to celebrate his duet with Blake Shelton called “Dive Bar.”
Jaycelle Veigle, who works at The Barn, said Brooks got his start at the bar. The last times he performed at The Barn were in 1989 and 1990.
"We've had some really great acts here in the past, but nothing like Garth Brooks in recent history," Veigle said. "He's a legend in his own right and this is super exciting for us."
Brooks immortalized The Barn in his song "The Old Stuff." The lyrics mentioning the venue are posted on the wall.
"He's coming back to his Barn family," Veigle said.
Tickets will not be on sale. You can only win them from local country radio stations, News 6 was told by The Barn staff.
The performance is happening one year after The Barn's floor collapsed during a show. The floor has since been fixed.
Staff is expecting a large turnout for the show. Veigle said the venue can hold 960 people. It's unclear how many tickets are available.
Brooks’ management team will release the list of participating radio stations Wednesday afternoon. The list will be posted to The Barn’s website, according to the bar’s staff.
Veigle said the venue is going to do what it can to make sure everyone enjoys the show.
"We're probably going to have some crowds showing up and we're going to do what we can and let the people that don't win tickets to be inside, have a little bit of an experience with it," she said. "We haven't finalized what this is going to be just yet, but we are working toward having something available for the crowds that might show up."
Sanford police officials said they're still learning details about the concert and they're working on an incident plan.
Local country station K923 has announced ways it will be giving away tickets.
Fans Fred and Debbie Taylor are hoping they win tickets. The couple met at The Barn 10 years ago and got married at the venue.
Debbie Taylor said she wrote to Brooks on Facebook earlier this year, asking the music legend to come back and perform.
"I told him he's got friends in low places, which is The Barn, and he really needs to come where the whiskey drowns and the beer chases your blues away," Debbie Taylor said.
They add they're excited for the chance to see Brooks come back to his roots.
"There's nothing like seeing a big star in a small venue where you can actually see them and feel like they're real people," Fred Taylor said.
