LEER, Germany – The Disney Wish reached another key milestone.

After nearly two years of construction, the ship left the Meyer Werft shipyard on a journey to reach open water for the first time. The roughly 128-foot wide ship is now snaking its way through a series of trials on the Ems River before making its way to the North Sea.

When the ship sets sail this Summer, it will be the newest Disney Cruise Line ship and will be filled with innovative new experiences steeped in Disney storytelling, including the first-ever Disney attraction at sea, immersive dining experiences themed to “Frozen” and Marvel, and a high-end lounge set in the Star Wars galaxy.

The Disney Wish is the first of three new ships for the Disney Cruise Line. Two other vessels are set to follow in 2024 and 2025.

The Disney Wish will be powered by liquified natural gas, or LNG, one of the cleanest-burning fuels available, officials said. At approximately 144,000 gross tons and 1,250 guest staterooms, the ship will be slightly larger than the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy.

The Disney Wish will sail its maiden voyage on July 14 from Port Canaveral.
