ORLANDO, Fla. – Security company Vivint has released its list of the “safest” small towns in the nation, focusing on areas with the lowest rates of property crime.
The ranking examines towns across the U.S. with populations between 50,000 and 100,000, using FBI reports on property crime to determine which places provide the safest environments for potential movers and real estate developers.

“Whether you’re looking for a secure place to call home or an attractive investment opportunity, these findings shed light on where safety is prioritized,” the study reads.
Coming in first place is Columbus, Indiana, with Wheaton, Illinois (No. 2); Saratoga Springs, Utah (No. 3); Jacksonville, North Carolina (No. 4); and Johns Creek, Georgia (No. 5) rounding out the top picks for the study.

However, Florida’s safest locale came in a bit further down — St. Cloud at No. 37.
According to the data, St. Cloud saw much lower rates of motor vehicle thefts than other entries on the list, as well as lower rates of robbery and larceny.
In all, the number of reported property crimes in the city amounted to only around 96 per 10,000 residents.
