These Central Florida eateries were shut down due to health concerns

Reports cite cockroaches, rodent droppings and more

Last week, nearly 30 restaurants in Florida were forced to shut down after a visit from a state health inspector, according to the Florida DBPR.

Reports show that inspectors cited these businesses for reasons like cockroaches, rodent droppings, improper food handling and more.

Seven of these closures happened in Central Florida, though records show that they all managed to pass a follow-up inspection shortly after their shutdowns.

Below is the full list of Central Florida restaurants closed between March 31 and April 6.


COCOA BEACH

  • Pita Paradise
    • April 2:
      • Rodent droppings found throughout the building
      • Sewage/wastewater backed up at floor drain in corner of kitchen cook line
      • Cook began touching clean surfaces without washing hands after entering through the back door
      • Cook handled soiled dishes and then put on gloves without washing hands to prepare food
      • Operated with an expired Division of Hotels and Restaurants license
      • Raw shell eggs stored over feta in a walk-in cooler
    • April 7: Met inspection standards

LEESBURG

  • Ramshackle Café
    • April 1:
      • Sour cream, cheese and lettuce held at temperatures over 41 degrees
      • Six roaches found near front bar.
    • April 3: Met inspection standards

MELBOURNE

  • Southern Sisters Café
    • April 2:
      • Two dead roaches found under a sink
      • Ten live roaches found on floor by reach-in cooler
      • Raw chicken on top of ham in prep sink, thawing
    • April 3: Met inspection standards

ORLANDO

  • Sunshine Soul Food Café
    • April 2:
      • 16 live roaches found near sinks
      • Potato salad left in reach-in cooler overnight
      • Chicken, beef and pork held at over 41 degrees
    • April 3: Met inspection standards
  • Made in Puerto Rico Latin Cuisine & Sports Bar
    • April 3:
      • Dishmachine chlorine sanitizer not at proper strength
      • Operated with an expired Division of Hotels and Restaurants license
      • Raw animal food not properly separated from ready-to-eat food
      • Four live roaches found on premises
      • Cooked sausage, sliced ham, cooked cod salad, sliced cheese, chorizo, garlic in oil, and heavy cream not held at proper temperatures

  • Mito Sushi and Grill
    • April 4:
      • Raw animal food not properly separated from ready-to-eat food
      • 11 live roaches found in building

TITUSVILLE

  • Ako Sushi and Seafood
    • April 2:
      • Vitamins and ibuprofen stored by sauce in front counter
      • Non-food-grade towel lining sushi rice
      • Over 130 rodent droppings found in the business
      • Garlic oil kept on cook line overnight at 84 degrees. Dumplings kept on reach-in cooler overnight at 56 degrees
