#HouseHacks: Fill gaps and seal cracks to keep out critters!

Step-by-step repair

When 85-year-old Ms. Jacqueline asked us to Get Results At Home for her in Pine Hills, she said she needed help with everything at her house! So we did what we could.

Her biggest issue was the gaps and cracks on her porch allowing critters to get inside. The edge of her screened-in porch had a gap just big enough that snakes and lizards could slip through. And her porch screen door had a gap running the length of the entire door.

We purchased:

Filling Gaps

Great Stuff foam gap filler

Step 1

Wear gloves!!! This stuff is nasty and it will never come off from your fingers and under your fingernails! Use latex or nitrile gloves. Even rubber gloves are better than nothing.

Step 2

Shake well. Screw on the nozzle. Spray! Note - a little goes a long way - the foam expands as it dries!!! Don’t use too much. You can always let it dry and come back and spray more.

Step 3

Slice off the extra. Use a razor knife to slice off any protruding bubbles. Makes for a nice clean look.

We purchased:

Weather Stripping

Door and window weather stripping

Step 1

Peel off the backing.

Step 2

Press the sticky side onto the edge of a door or window frame. Run the weather stripping down along the edge and run your finger along the weather stripping to make sure it’s securely stuck onto the edge.

Step 3

Tear off the extra. You don’t even need scissors, the strip should tear easily. If it’s not thick enough, apply a second layer to the other side of the edge.

You just got results at home!
