Palm Bay man charged with animal cruelty after dogs found abandoned

Neighbors say they kept dogs from killing each other

PALM BAY, Fla. – A Palm Bay man has been charged with animal cruelty after police say he left his dogs without food or water for several days.

Palm Bay police arrested Daniel Elmore, 43, on Monday after they received reports that neighbors were caring for his two abandoned dogs at his home on Jefferson Avenue for more than three days.

Police said one dog was found in his garage and another was in his bedroom. According to the police report, an excessive amount of feces was found in the confined bedroom.

Neighbors told police the two dogs were fighting and they had to intervene to keep the dogs from killing each other. One dog, a pit bull, was injured significantly, according to the report.

The report states Elmore is unemployed. He has been charged with two counts of animal cruelty for confinement of animals without sufficient food.
