Florida Hospital to build 3 new buildings for women's health

Women's health buildings to bring hundreds of jobs to Central Fla.

ORLANDO, Fla. – Florida Hospital will build three new buildings in Central Florida for women's health, according to a news release.

The new buildings will house comprehensive services for women as well as additional services and a new platform to provide women with tools to live healthier and longer lives.

"Florida Hospital has been providing services to women for more than 100 years across our system and it has always been a part of who we are," said Lars Houmann, president and CEO of Florida Hospital, in a release. "But we know we can do more. Now is the time for us to step forward and put the focus on women's health."

The Celebration Health Women's Institute, a four-story 80,000-square-foot building, will house a variety of women's health services including breast care, radiation and oncology, gynecology and obstetrics.

The two-story Winter Park Women's Health Pavilion, opening in fall of 2013, will be a center for women's health and wellness and will also offer a variety of medical services.

Also, the Florida Hospital Orlando Women's Pavilion, a 12-story patient tower, will feature more than 300 patient beds when complete in 2015.

"Women experience a variety of health challenges that can affect the entire home and family unit," Marla Silliman, senior vice president of Florida Hospital. "We also know women are extremely busy and are more likely to put their own health concerns on hold. Part of our commitment will include a unique wellness and prevention program, designed just for women."

Silliman also mentioned the Florida Hospital Healthy 100 Women campaign, which is designed to inspire the entire Central Florida community to live to a Healthy 100 years old.

"The facilities are an extension of our Healthy 100 program," Silliman said, "It's where women can come when they need either comprehensive [or] clinical care wrapped under one roof."

The campaign will allow women to help shape what services and programs should be included as Florida Hospital expands women's health care services.

Construction began on Tuesday at the Winter Park and Celebration locations. The buildings will bring 825 construction jobs and 1,700 permanent healthcare jobs.
