DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – With afternoon high temperatures in the mid to upper 80s and mostly sunny skies, the beaches are packed this Mother's Day weekend.
Lifeguards are warning beach-goers of very strong rip currents as Tropical Storm Ana spins toward the Carolinas.
"I took an hour walk down the beach, get some cardio workout, now getting a couple minutes of sun," said Daytona mother Karen Crites, who was enjoying the beach with her friend, Pam.
Gregorio Silva is planning on catching some waves before high tide rolls in.
"Should be fun out there hopefully," he said.
Midday high tides threaten to shut down beach driving Saturday and Sunday, and lifeguards are also warning of strong rip currents.
Beach-goers are encouraged to swim in front of open lifeguard towers and be prepared to move their vehicles once high tide rolls in.
There is a free app that you can download through Volusia County's website. It lets you know which lifeguard stands are open.
