Brevard Zoo welcomes new baby giraffe

Zoo says mother, baby doing well

VIERA, Fla. – The Brevard Zoo has welcomed its newest addition, a baby giraffe.

At six feet and 152 pounds, this little girl is bigger than most babies. In fact, she's bigger than most humans.

After 15-months of pregnancy, the mother Johari gave birth to her daughter.

The giraffe calf will not make its public debut for several weeks as it bonds with its mother. Until then. the zoo encourages the public to monitor the zoo's social media channels for updates.

"Mom and baby are both doing very well." said Michelle Smurl, director of animals programs at the Brevard Zoo.

This is the zoo's eight giraffe birth.
