Baby swans stolen from Lake Eola

Commissioners says baby swans can be returned safely, no questions asked

ORLANDO, Fla. – Six baby swans were stolen earlier this week from Lake Eola, according to an Orlando city official.

Orlando City Commissioner Patty Sheehan posted a photo Tuesday night on Facebook, saying someone took the swans on Monday.

Sheehan said the culprit will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

"Some scumbag stole six Cygnets (baby swans) from Lake Eola Park," Sheehan posted. "I am just furious."

She said predator or natural activity would not account for that amount of missing birds without any evidence left behind.

"I don't know why anyone would want to steal babies from their momma and hear her scream, I can't imagine anyone that heartless. What a horrible thing for someone to do," said Sheehan.

Chris Wallace, the Eola park manager, said the baby swans were born on Sunday night, and the last time rangers saw them was during last check Monday night sometime between 10 -11 p.m.

"They had to wait for the male to leave because that male would've been in attack mode if somebody was attacking the nest," said Wallace.

He also mentioned the father swan is the largest male of its breed on the Lake.

Sheehan said they don't want someone to panic and hurt the baby swans. News 6 asked if the swans could be delivered safely back to the park, anonymously.

"If they want to drop them off here at Eola House no questions asked we're good, but if you're going to try to sell them, we have friends all over the animal industry that are all over this, I don't think they're going to be able to sell these swans," said Sheehan.
