Man with trauma to body found dead in Apopka neighborhood, deputies say

Homicide investigation underway

APOPKA, Fla. – A man who was working in an Apopka neighborhood was found dead with trauma to his body Thursday, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said Elkin DeJesus Ramirez, 62, was found suffering from a "mortal wound" in the backyard of a home.

Neighbors heard gunshots, but authorities have not confirmed gunfire was involved.

His son told News 6 Ramirez was doing electrical work in the neighborhood. Now, there's a $5,000 reward for any information leading to his killer's arrest.

Orange County Deputy Ingrid Tejada-Monforte said that firefighters were originally called to 33 Celeste Drive in south Apopka shortly before 10 a.m. to what they thought would be a medical call.

When they arrived, they saw Ramirez had trauma to his body so they called the Sheriff's Office. A homicide investigation is underway.

“The community can feel safe at this time. We do have deputies at this time and no one is in danger,” Tejada-Monforte said.

She said deputies are not searching for any suspects or a person of interest in connection with the crime, but would not say if anyone is being questioned or is in custody.

The Sheriff's Office is asking anyone who lives in the area and might have witnessed anything between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. Thursday to call Crimeline at 800-423-8477.
