Publix ranks No. 1 for its pharmacies. Here’s what that means

Last week, J.D. Power released its ranking of the top pharmacies nationwide — and Publix ranked No. 1.

More specifically, the Florida-based supermarket chain ranked as the top brick-and-mortar supermarket pharmacy among its competitors.

The study examined which pharmacies scored the best for customer satisfaction, scoring different businesses on a scale of 1,000 points using factors like fulfillment of customer needs, resolution of complaints and customer perceptions.

In addition, the study broke pharmacies up into different categories: supermarkets, mass merchandisers, chain drug stores, and mail orders.

Overall, supermarket pharmacies like Publix had the highest average (712 points), while mass merchandisers came in second (700 points), and mail-order outlets placed third (690 points). Chain drug stores came in last with 642 points on average.

“Brick-and-mortar pharmacies are excelling in pharmacists’ communication with customers, with 89% of them indicating that their pharmacist’s explanation was understood — a significant positive change from 2023,” the study reads. “That said, just 51% say prescriptions were filled quickly, and only 51% say their pharmacist is trustworthy.”

The study also notes that many brick-and-mortar pharmacies have been showing declines in customer satisfaction, while scores for mail-order pharmacies have been steadily improving on average.

Aside from Publix, the top pharmacies for each category were Sam’s Club (Mass Merchandisers), Good Neighbor Pharmacy (Chain Drug Stores), and PillPack by Amazon Pharmacy (Mail Orders).
