Gov. Ron DeSantis has signed a death warrant for the April 8 execution of inmate Michael Tanzi, who was convicted in the 2000 murder of a woman in Monroe County, according to the Florida Supreme Court.
The death warrant came as the state is scheduled March 20 to execute inmate Edward James in a 1993 murder in Seminole County.

James would be the second person put to death by lethal injection this year in Florida. The Supreme Court early Monday evening posted a document on its website that said DeSantis had signed a death warrant for Tanzi.
The document detailed a schedule for expected legal proceedings. A copy of the death warrant was not immediately available. Tanzi was convicted of kidnapping and murdering Janet Acosta, according to court documents from previous appeals.
He assaulted and kidnapped Acosta as she sat in her van during her lunch hour on April 25, 2000, in Miami. Tanzi drove to the Florida Keys, strangled Acosta and disposed of her body in a secluded area, the court documents said.
Tanzi, now 48, is an inmate at Florida State Prison, according to the state Department of Corrections website.
