‘Unexpected stowaway:’ Snake spotted on US Coast Guard helicopter in Florida

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. – The U.S. Coast Guard Air Station in Clearwater had an uninvited guest earlier this month when a snake slithered its way onto its helicopter.

“This unexpected stowaway was found napping on a Jayhawk tailwheel,” the U.S. Coast Guard Station Air Station Clearwater posted on Facebook on Feb. 11. “He reluctantly departed the scene when confronted.”

According to the Miami Herald, this snake was a two-foot corn snake.

Last year, another snake tried to make its way onto a plane. A boa constrictor was found in a traveler’s carry-on bag by the Transportation Security Administration at Tampa International Airport.

The traveler told TSA agents the snake, named Bartholomew, was her emotional support snake.
