Nearly 500K people have left Florida. Where did they go?

Meanwhile, 1M flocked to Sunshine State in 2022

Welcome to Florida sign.

In 2022, over 1 million people flocked to Florida from all over the world — a huge surge in migrants from other states and countries.

During that same year, though, nearly 500,000 people left the state for other parts of the country, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

The data shows that the top destinations were states in Southeastern U.S.: Georgia (No. 1), Texas (No. 2) and North Carolina (No. 3), with over 20% of those leaving the state heading to one of these three places.

Other major destinations included California (No. 4) and New York (No. 7), two states where around 50,000 people relocated from Florida.

Both of those states were also the top spots from where people to the Sunshine State in 2022.

Despite the large outflow, Florida still received a surplus of around 500,000 people that year during a time when the state attracted large swaths of migrants.

Thanks to the huge influx of people in recent years, Florida has experienced a much higher level of inflation compared to other states.

The estimates for people moving to each state — including Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico — are as follows:
