MIAMI – A flight from Sweden to Miami had to turn around Thursday after experiencing turbulence over Greenland which the airline says was so severe that it required the aircraft to be inspected afterward.

None of the more than 250 people on board Scandinavian Airlines flight SK957 suffered severe injuries, a spokesperson for the airline said in a statement to News 6.

The flight was rerouted to Copenhagen (CPH) because Miami International Airport lacked the necessary facilities and staff for the level of inspection required, the spokesperson said, adding that if the plane did in fact make it to Miami, the expected time that it might have spent grounded would have led to multiple cancelations anyway.

Passengers were met upon their arrival by a special assistance team that provided information, addressed any concerns, assisted with rebooking and otherwise ensured their comfort, the statement reads.

Accommodated passengers were put in a hotel overnight and have all since been booked on other flights, according to the statement.
