ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – Former Florida Gators defensive end and ex-NFL player Earl James Okine was arrested Wednesday during a traffic stop in Alachua County, according to the sheriff’s office.
Okine faces charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of marijuana under 20 grams, the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office said on social media.
Okine was driving a Jeep that was pulled over by a K9 deputy late Wednesday after the deputy allegedly saw the Jeep fail to stop for a stop sign, the post states.
After finding probable cause to search the vehicle, deputies found 1.9 grand of crystalized methamphetamine, a small amount of marijuana and a loaded Smith and Wesson handgun with an extended magazine, according to the sheriff’s office.
Okine played for the Gators from 2008 to 2012 and went on to play NFL and the Arena Football League, the post mentions.
