TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – A recent poll from a Florida business group suggests state residents are most concerned with the cost of insurance and the pressures of inflation above all else.

The Associated Industries of Florida (AIF) Center for Political Strategy in June released initial findings from its Q2 2024 Statewide General Election Poll of 800 registered likely voters throughout the state, with responses collected from May 28-30 of last year.

Leading the pack, the results show 26% of respondents had property insurance costs top of mind and 21% were concerned by inflation while illegal immigration represented 13% of the responses and housing costs made up 10%. No other figures made it into the double digits, according to AIF.

Among other findings from the poll, AIF shared that voters preferred a generic Republic candidate over a generic Democratic candidate for president by a 47% to 43% margin with 10% undecided. Independent voters on their own preferred a generic Democrat over a Republican by a 43% to 36% margin, according to the poll.

Though what the release refers to as a plurality of voters believed neither party was doing an effective job lowering property insurance costs — a figure of 44% — voters scored Republicans higher than Democrats on matters of economy (44% to 23%), reducing inflation (35% to 25%), crime (46% to 16%), education (38% to 31%) and protecting personal freedoms (45% to 37%).
