Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with a late night out? Use this AAA service to get home safe

‘Tow to Go’ free rides offered March 14-18

TAMPA, Fla. – A free ride and towing service by AAA will be offered for the upcoming St. Patrick’s Day weekend.

Those celebrating the holiday have an alternative way to arrive home safely with “Tow to Go,” which offers a free ride to impaired drivers and their vehicles, according to a news release from AAA.

The company said that while the service is free to anyone, members and non-members, and it should be used as a last resort.

The service is offered in multiple states, but those in Florida can call 855-2-TOW-2-GO (855-286-9246) for a safe ride. Then, AAA dispatches a tow truck to transport the driver and their vehicle to a safe location within a 10-mile radius, according to the release.

Tow to Go will be active from 6 p.m. Friday, March 14, to Tuesday, March 18. It cannot be scheduled ahead of time as it designed to be a safety net to those who are unprepared, a AAA spokesperson said.

St. Patrick’s Day is one of the deadliest holidays on U.S. roadways, a spokesperson said. Over 11,000 people died in drunken-driving crashes in 2020, according to the news release.

Around 300 people died during St. Patrick’s Day from drunken driving between 2018-2022, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The company encourages partygoers to plan for a designated driver ahead of celebrations.
