TITUSVILLE, Fla. – Two people were injured Wednesday in a skydiving incident in Titusville after a parachute malfunction, according to Brevard County officials.
The skydiving injuries happened in the 900 block of Tennessee Street at 10:28 a.m., officials said. Two people were treated on scene by BCFR and the Titusville Fire Department before being flown to a trauma center.
Photos from the BCFR public information officer and the Titusville Fire Department showed a parachute amid downed branches in front of a residential home.
A video shared by a News 6 viewer shows the skydivers spiraling down to the ground. Onlookers can be heard saying, “oh my god” and “they’re going down.” Watch below:
“We just watched them go down over the tree line, it was nothing you could do,” witness Christina Renfore said. “He went into a pretty nasty spin. At first we thought he was having fun and showing off, but it was pretty evident shortly after they were in trouble.”
Titusville police said the skydiving trip originated from Dunn Airport North Titusville, where Space Coast Skydive Center operates from.
Police said there was a malfunction with the tandem parachute and they are investigating the incident.
Space Coast Skydive owner Greg Nardi said they’re looking into what happened but it appears everything was working properly at take off.
A master jumper and a student took off around 10 a.m. prior to the crash landing, according to Nardi.
Witnesses said they’re happy things were not worse for the sky divers.
“They made it, as that’s the most important thing,” Renfore said.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the mishap.
