Orange County receives 19,500 doses of Pfizer vaccine, plans for distribution

County working on next steps for dissemination

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Orange County government received another shipment of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine.

A total of 19,500 doses arrived at Orange County Health Services Tuesday. The agency is working with the Florida Department of Health Orange County on next steps to disseminate the doses.

The county started administering shots to EMTs and paramedics with shots of Pfizer’s vaccine just before the new year, with vaccination plans rolling out to people 65 and older shortly after.

Once the county announced seniors could receive the vaccine, the online registration portal was closed after more than 30,000 appointments were made within 24 hours. The county department of health has not yet announced when it will reopen the portal.

Seniors can get their vaccines at the Orange County Convention Center between 8 a.m. and 9 pm. Appointments are required. This vaccine location is also open to people who live outside of Orange County.

Though the county has not released details on how it will utilize its new shipment, Gov. Ron DeSantis has emphasized that the first round of shots will go to those most vulnerable to the virus.

Though registration is temporarily closed, people can sign up when it re-opens at OCFL.net/vaccines. Residents can also sign up for email updates to learn more about vaccine distribution. Here is the direct link to register.
