Florida woman accused of screaming political profanities, ringing bell at 5 a.m. each day

Neighbors say they fear for their safety

Linda Wildes (Brevard County Sheriff's Office)

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – A Florida woman repeatedly harassed her neighbors by screaming profanities related to politicians and ringing a loud bell each day at 5 a.m., according to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said they’ve been called to the Pine Lake Drive area of Melbourne 20 times in the past two years regarding Linda Wildes, including in early December when her neighbor complained.

Records show that woman has lived in the community for the past two months and during that time, she experienced “constant harassment” and “verbal attacking” from Wildes on a daily basis.

Wildes is accused of getting up at 5 a.m. each morning to scream “(Expletive) you,” “(Expletive) you, (expletive),” “You’re a (expletive)” and other comments pertaining to President Donald Trump and President-elect Joe Biden.

Deputies said Wildes put signs up in her yard that read “(Expletive) you,” “(Expletive) you dum (expletive),” “Teach them to lie, grab them in the (expletive) like Trump did,” and a sign claiming a neighbor was a pedophile, which she took down.

The woman said both she and her 12-year-old daughter have been harassed, causing them both emotional distress and interrupting the girl’s virtual learning, according to the affidavit. Records show the mother feared that Wildes could turn violent toward.

Deputies said as they were speaking with the neighbor, Wildes starting ringing the bell and screaming, “Biden won.”

Another neighbor offered similar stories of harassment, claiming Wilder would yell profanities and political comments at her and her school-aged daughter, disrupting the girl’s online learning and routinely waking them both up, the report said.

“The repetitive behaviors and outbursts by Ms. Wildes has caused emotional distress to neighbors residing around her and have put the neighbors in fear for their children’s safety and wellbeing as they play and walk around the neighborhood on a daily basis,” a deputy wrote in the report.

On Tuesday around 6:30 a.m., deputies went to the neighborhood and said they again found Wildes outside, ringing a bell and screaming, “You’re an (expletive)” and “You’re a dumb (expletive)” at her neighbors.

The couple who lives across from Wildes said she was making comments about their 10-year-old daughter, causing the girl to cry, records show.

Given the repeated pattern of behavior, deputies decided to take Wildes into custody but she refused to speak with them and just continued yelling at the couple and their child, according to the affidavit.

The deputy said as she tried to arrest Wildes, Wildes tried to hit her with a coffee cup, dropped on the floor, repeatedly tried to pull away and bit the deputy on her hand.

Records show Wildes became aggressive again after she was placed in the back of a patrol car and bit the deputy for a second time.

She’s facing charges of stalking, disorderly conduct, battery on an officer and resisting arrest with violence.
