Florida is taking part in the Emergency Rental Assistance program to help Floridians impacted financially by the coronavirus.
Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Monday that the state would take part in the program, which was established by the COVID-19 relief legislation that was passed in December.

The program would provide $1.4 billion in emergency rental assistance to Floridians who qualify, with more than $850 million administered by the state.
Cities and counties with a population of 200,000 or more would receive funds directly from the U.S. Department of Treasury.

Household qualifications for assistance:
. Qualifies for unemployment or has experienced a reduction in household income, incurred significant costs or experienced financial hardships due to COVID-19.
. Demonstrates a risk of experiencing homelessness or housing instability.
. Has a household income at or below 80% of the area median income, with priority given to households below 50% of the area median income.
