Vaccine event at Amazon center to open every weekday

GROVELAND, Fla. – Amazon teamed up with the Florida Department of Health-Lake County to administer vaccines to seniors on Wednesday.

Vaccinations took place via drive-thru on a first-come, first-served basis at the Amazon distribution site in Groveland, which reached capacity about 40 minutes before the event began.

Florida Department of Health Lake County said first and second doses of the Pfizer vaccine will be administered in the morning. Then only second doses of the Pfizer vaccine in the afternoon.

“This site is first come first served and it’s open until further notice,” Aaron Kissler with FDOH Lake County said.

Magdalena Contreras and her husband, Juan, drove from Pasco County to Lake County Wednesday morning to get their first shots.

“I think this is a good idea because if you are here early enough, you get your vaccine, and you don’t have to go through the hassle of registering,” Contreras said.

Health officials announced Wednesday that the center will be open Monday through Friday until further notice. Vaccinations begin at 8 a.m. each day.

Participants must be 65 and older and will have to present a valid Florida driver’s license or a Florida Identification Card for proof of residence.
