Man shot to death after walking through group of people in downtown Orlando, police say

Victim identified as Joseph Torres

ORLANDO, Fla. – A man was shot and killed during a fight early Sunday in downtown Orlando, police said.

The Orlando Police Department said officers responded to the 20 block of N. Orange Ave. around 2:30 a.m. after hearing gunshots and found the man dead. The victim was identified as 34-year-old Joseph Torres.

Detectives said Torres tried to walk through a group of people when someone blocked his path. A fight broke out and Torres was shot, police said.

No arrests have been made, and police said anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call OPD or Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.

Homicide detectives closed Orange Avenue from Washington and Pine streets for an investigation, according to the department. Central Boulevard was also closed from Garland and Court avenues.
