16-year-old shot, killed in Sanford drive-by; police release photo of wanted car

Black four-door vehicle is a vehicle of interest, police say

SANFORD, Fla. – A 16-year-old boy was killed Thursday evening in a drive-by shooting in Sanford, police said.

Sanford police said Jaitoryon McNair died in the shooting, which was reported around 6:35 p.m. in the 200 block of Hays Drive, west of French Avenue and north of H E Thomas Parkway.

Police said officers responded to a 911 call and found McNair suffering from multiple gunshot wounds on the front patio of a home.

McNair was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Police said it appears several shots were fired from a black, four-door sedan (pictured below), which turned west on Anderson Circle and fled the area.

The victim and the shooter knew each other, according to Sanford police spokeswoman Bianca Gillett, who said it was an isolated incident.

“We are hoping somebody saw that vehicle leave the area,” Gillett said.

McNair attended Oviedo High School, which has counselors available for students, according to Seminole County Public Schools.

Anyone with information about the shooting or vehicle is asked to call the Sanford Police Department or Crimeline at 800 423-TIPS.
