Seminole County fire chief resigns to pursue new career opportunity

SANFORD, Fla. – Seminole County Fire Chief Otto Drozd III announced his resignation on Monday.

In an email to the fire department, Drozd said he had turned in his letter of resignation to Interim County Manager Joe Abel earlier in the day.

The letter said Drozd was resigning to pursue a new career opportunity that will allow him to “contribute to our great fire and emergency services at the national and international levels.”

“It was an extremely difficult decision as I have grown to love, respect and appreciate all of the men and women of the Seminole County Fire Department,” Drozd said in the email.

In a statement to News 6, Doreen Overstreet, Seminole County Public Safety Information and Education Officer said, “We will miss him, as he had a very positive [impact] on the Seminole County Fire Department, but we are happy for his next and new chapter.”

Drozd’s last day as as fire chief will be Dec. 10.
