TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida residents hit with an overpayment notice for Reemployment Assistance benefits between March 1, 2020, and Sept. 4, 2021, through no fault of their own, will not be going to collections.
The Department of Economic Opportunity issued that reminder this week following an uptick in overpayment notices to families across the state of Florida.

The state is continuing the policy of not referring overpayments to collection agencies to ensure claimants do not experience adverse impacts to their credit scores. Additionally, the state of Florida is not pursuing enforcement actions regarding non-fraudulent state Reemployment Assistance overpayments
The Department of Economic Opportunity is still reviewing more than 250-thousand unpaid benefits issues as we close in on the end of the year.
As of Nov. 15, DEO has paid 2,433,192 claimants more than $31.8 billion ($31,832,436,687). Over 5.8 million (5,821,704) unique claims have been processed, representing 99.6 percent of unique claims submitted.
