Man, 24, arrested in recent UCF video voyeurism case

ORLANDO, Fla. – An arrest has been made in connection with a recent incident of voyeurism reported on the University of Central Florida main campus, according to the school’s police department.

The department said Deontre Donnell Mason, 24, was arrested Tuesday after license plate readers helped police locate his car entering the campus Tuesday morning.

Police said the incident occurred around 6 p.m. on Nov. 29 in a restroom on the first floor of the L3 Harris Corporation Engineering Center. The victim who reported the violation noticed a phone hovering over the stall divider and confronted the voyeur outside the bathroom, officers said.

When investigators announced the incident, they said they believed the voyeur may be committing the same crime in other locations as well.

“I read it and I was just like, are you kidding me. That is absolutely gross,” said Aubree Howard, a freshman at UCF.

Howard explained she received an email from UCF officials about the incident.

“Knowing that there was some one walking around and in the email it didn’t even say that he went here. He was just here to be here and do that,” Howard said.

UCF police actually unveiled license place readers nearly two years ago to try and catch any suspicious activity on campus. Mason’s arrest on Tuesday was prime example, which makes Howard feel safer at school.

“I never recognized how many cameras there are everywhere, but that also helps with the safety thing,” she said.

UCF police are encouraging other potential victims to come forward with any information by calling the non-emergency line at 407-823-5555 or dialing 911 for emergencies.

“When crimes like this occur on or near UCF’s campuses, you may receive timely warning messages like this with more information and the precautions you should take,” a release read.

Police said the man had no affiliation with the university and faces a charge of video voyeurism.
