WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. – Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed an education bill promoting financial literacy education in Florida schools Tuesday in Wesley Chapel.
“What the bill’s doing with financial literacy is really providing a foundation for students that’s going to be applicable in their lives, regardless of what path they take,” DeSantis said.

The bill, SB 1054, revises the “required credits for a standard high school diploma to include one-half credit of instruction in personal financial literacy and money management.”
DeSantis said this requirement will take effect during the 2023-2024 school year.
“This will be provide a foundation for students to learn about the basics of money management, understanding debt, understanding how to balance a checkbook, understanding the fundamentals of investing,” the governor said.
The governor was joined by Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran and Senate President Wilton Simpson for the news conference at Innovation Preparatory Academy.
