5 arrested after after shooting, chase in Orlando, police say

Pursuit ended at a hospital, where person was taken inside with gunshot wound

ORLANDO, Fla. – One person is critically injured after a shooting led to a chase that ended at a hospital, according to the Orlando Police Department. Five people have been arrested.

The department said officers responded to reports of a shooting at a business on Kingspoint Parkway Sunday.

Police said after the shooting, one of the vehicles involved was seen fleeing the area. A pursuit ensued through the area of International Drive and Interstate 4, ending up at Dr. Phillips Hospital nearly five miles away.

Joshua Gonzalez, 24, who was inside the car, was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound and is in critical condition after being airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center, police said.

Joel Ayala, 18, was charged with attempted second-degree murder with a firearm. Gabriel Mayorquin, 18, and two 16-year-olds have been charged with public order crimes -- accessory after the fact, as was Gonzalez.

Detectives are also asking anyone in the other vehicle involved to come forward as a possible victim in the case.
