ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – An Orange County deputy is under investigation to determine if any disciplinary action is needed after he collided with another vehicle on Christmas Eve, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputy Daniel Bosch ran a red light and was involved in a crash with another car on Colonial Drive and John Young Parkway, according to a report from the Orlando Police Department.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Wednesday an administrative investigation is underway “to determine what possible disciplinary action Deputy Bosch could face.” The sheriff’s office said the investigation could take up to 180 days.

Body and dash camera video released by the sheriff’s office shows the moments leading up to the crash.

Video from Bosch’s showed him on his phone, scrolling through what appeared to be a social media site, but he then appeared to stop. From the dashcam video, Bosch can be seen looking ahead, and not at his phone, when the crash happened.

Orlando police investigated the incident and reported the deputy was not distracted. Police said Bosch and the two people in the other car were all taken to the hospital, but everyone was expected to be OK.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said Bosch is still a patrol deputy and allowed to drive a patrol vehicle.

It is unclear how far into the 180 days the investigation is currently.
