Deputies went to arrest Daniel Morales, 31, on Monday on Mockingbird Lane in Altamonte Springs on a warrant for failure to appear for a trial scheduling conference for grand theft of $750 or more but less than $5,000.

According to the arrest report, deputies tried to block Morales’ vehicle as he left his home, and Morales rammed the cruiser. They say Morales then drove across a neighbor’s yard, eventually crashing into a tree.

Deputies said Morales got out of the vehicle and tried to run away, but fell. Investigators said when they caught up with him, Morales tried to grab at the detective’s rifle and pushed him in the chest.

Another deputy deployed his Taser to get Morales disabled long enough to get him in handcuffs, with three Taser probes making contact, including one in the buttocks, records show.

Deputies said when they searched Morales they found two crack pipes and a small baggie containing what appeared to be two pieces of crack cocaine. They said they also found a gun stolen out of Orange County.

Morales faces several charges, including resisting arrest, fleeing and eluding, aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer and cocaine possession.

Morales was a former corrections officer in Orange County. It’s not known when he left the agency or why.
