LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – A 14-year-old boy was arrested Tuesday on allegations of calling in a false bomb threat to a Wendy’s in Eustis, an affidavit shows.
Lake County deputies said the Tavares Middle School student called the threat into the fast food chain location at 2827 S. Bay Street around 5:30 p.m. on April 9.

According to a probable cause statement, the store manager told deputies the teen called the restaurant’s main line asking, “Is this Wendy’s?” before saying, “You better get out, it’s about to blow up.”
The Wendy’s manager then contacted deputies, who arrived about 15 minutes later, cleared the building and parking lot and found no explosives, investigators said.
Deputies said the phone number provided by the store manager matched four different subjects before a further investigation determined the 14-year-old suspect was the one who called in the false bomb threat.
When deputies interviewed the teen, he said he and his friend had “made some prank phone calls about a month ago from his friends’ phone” and said “random things.”
Later, the teen’s friend said they called Wendy’s saying, “Hurry up and go and hurry up and get out of there” with the intent to scare the person on the receiving end of the phone call.
The teen faces a charge of making a false bomb threat.
