Jury finds woman not guilty of murder in UCF executive’s death

Jurors found Danielle Redlick guilty of tampering with evidence

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A jury found a Winter Park woman not guilty of murdering her husband in their home in January 2019.

Redlick cried as jurors read the verdict just before noon on Friday. She was found guilty of tampering with evidence, the second charge she faced.

Redlick, 48, faced charges of second-degree murder and tampering with evidence in the death of Michael Redlick, 65, who worked as director of external affairs and partnership relations at UCF’s DeVos Sport Business Management Graduate Program. Redlick cried as the verdict was read.

Redlick’s charging information has disappeared from Orange County jail records, which indicates she is likely in the process of posting the $15,000 bond the judge said she must pay in order to be released. She is awaiting sentencing for the tampering verdict. Sentencing for this verdict was set for Aug. 5.

The trial has lasted more than a week before a verdict was delivered.

During closing arguments Thursday, prosecutors and the defense painted two different pictures of what happened the night Michael Redlick was killed. The state worked to convince the jury Redlick was guilty in the stabbing death of her husband. Prosecutors showed the knife used to kill Michael Redlick, saying his wife waited 11 hours to call 911 and tried to get rid of evidence.

“She does everything she can, from the moment she realizes she killed that man, to avoid answering for what she’s done,” prosecutors said.

The defense argued Michael Redlick was a violent and controlling husband and that the “only option she had in that kitchen was to take action.” Redlick’s attorney said her goal was to escape as she was being strangled and had no choice but to stab him in self-defense.

Danielle Redlick bonded out at 10:30 p.m. Friday evening.
