Blue Origin announces crew for its 6th human flight, includes Melbourne restaurant owner

The manufacturer has not announced the date for its flight

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Blue Origin announced on Friday the six-member crew for its next flight, and it includes a restaurant owner in Melbourne.

Steve Young owns the three-story restaurant Pineapples in Melbourne. He will be aboard New Shepard’s 22nd flight along with the first Egyptian and Portuguese astronauts.

Blue Origin is an aerospace manufacturer that has been testing the New Shepard rocket and its safety systems since 2012, according to its website. This upcoming flight will be its third flight this year and the sixth human flight for the program.

Young is the former CEO of Y-COM, Young’s Communications LLC. He previously said he applied back in fall to be on the flight, and he was able to afford the ticket by selling Y-COM.

“With the sale of the company came lots of stupid money. And with stupid money, you can do stupid things,” Young told Florida Today in June.

The 22nd flight’s crew also includes Egyptian engineer Sara Sabry and Portuguese entrepreneur Mário Ferreira, the first people from Egypt and Portugal to fly to space.

Young, Sabry and Ferreira will be joined by Coby Cotton, one of the five co-founders of Dude Perfect, a YouTube channel with 58 million subscribers.

British-American explorer Vanessa O’Brien will become the first woman to reach extremes on land, air and sea. She will complete the Explorers’ Extreme Trifecta, a Guinness World Record.

Technology leader Clint Kelly III will also be on Blue Origin’s crew. He managed research and technology programs while in government and industry.

New Shepard’s flight date has not been announced.
