Cocoa Beach man admitted to beating, raping woman he held captive, police say

COCOA BEACH, Fla. – A Cocoa Beach man admitted to holding a woman captive while beating and raping her, according to police.

Isaiah Burrows, 21, was arrested Thursday after the victim managed to escape.

Police said Burrows and the victim had been arguing, prompting him to attack her — biting and hitting her repeatedly.

The victim told officers she managed to get away briefly but was dragged back into a bedroom, records show. The woman managed to get away a second time, this time making it to a bus stop, but Burrows again dragged her back to his home, according to investigators.

The victim said Burrows then said “I should kill you,” before choking her until she fell unconscious, police said. The woman came to with Burrows again beating her, according to the arrest affidavit.

Police said in the course of holding her hostage, the woman was raped before she was ultimately able to escape when Burrows left the room to harm himself.

Officers said Burrows admitted to the abuse when questioned.

Burrows faces charges for attempted murder, sexual battery, false imprisonment, possession of a controlled substance and violation of probation.
