Ashley Moody: Florida Couple Steals $8K from Senior, Bought Inflatable Pool & Gourmet Barbeque
A Florida couple is accused of stealing thousands from a senior trusted with their care and spending it on a list of frivolous items.
State Attorney General Ashley Moody said in a news release that investigators discovered the couple took more than $8,000 dollars from a 70-year-old after they moved into a nursing home.
Charles Currington and Crystal Sherlock allegedly had lived with the victim and helped them pay household bills.
Instead of giving the debit card back authorities say the couple went on a spending spree and used the money to buy an inflatable pool and a gourmet barbeque.
Currington and Sherlock are each charged with one count of criminal use of personal identification information of an individual more than 60 years old among other theft charges.
Universal Lawsuit over Theme Park Land Gets Dirty, Florida Politics reports
Universal Orlando is in a land war over its future Epic Universe theme park, according to a report from Florida Politics.
Fourth Watch Acquisitions filed a $250 million lawsuit earlier this year claiming they were under contract to buy 135 acres of land near the Orange County Convention Center to build its own theme park, Florida Politics reported.
Since then, it’s been a back-and-forth of legal mudslinging.
Universal Orlando is counter-suing, saying Forth Watch didn’t have the money to by the land in the first place, according to the report.
The lawsuit is scheduled for trial in December 2023 and could cost millions in legal fees.
A Completely Random Florida Fact
As most people know, Gatorade was developed at the University of Florida. But do you know what it tasted like?
The earliest version of the drink consisted of a mixture of water, sodium, sugar, potassium, phosphate, and lemon juice.
At the time, star quarterback Steve Spurrier said he wasn’t sure the drink actually helped their performance on the field.
Nonetheless, Gatorade went mainstream when the Gators credited the drink for their first Orange Bowl win over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in 1967.
