Orlando police search for robber after 1 shot in violent Baldwin Park carjacking

Victim taken to hospital in stable condition

ORLANDO, Fla. – Orlando police are looking for the robber who shot someone during a violent carjacking Wednesday afternoon.

Police said they could not find the robber after an extensive search of Hiawassee Road near State Road 408 that evening after the stolen vehicle was found abandoned nearby with drugs and a firearm in it. Deputies with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office also assisted.

Northbound traffic on Hiawassee Road and all other roadways are reopened.

The victim was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition. Police said Thursday that the victim and the shooter know each other and had met in Baldwin Park prior to the carjacking.

The carjacking happened near Publix in Baldwin Park, 1600 Prospect Ave.

“I happened to see out of the corner of my eye as I passed this young guy waving, trying to wave a car down,” Baldwin Park resident Greg Bloom said.

Bloom told News 6 that such crimes happen “a lot” in the area.

“They need to invest the apartments, the condos here (with) video cameras because there’s a lot of care theft and carjacking and bike theft,” he said. “And a lot more crime that’s penetrating this area.”

Anyone with information on these incidents is asked to contact the Orlando Police Department at 321-235-5300 or Crimeline by calling 1-800-423-TIPS (8477) or texting *8477.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
