WINTER SPRINGS, Fla. – A student who threw a chair, causing a shooting scare at Winter Springs High School, was arrested Thursday after a code red lockdown.
The school, located at 130 Tuskawilla Road in Winter Springs, was locked down before 10 a.m. as a precaution before deputies reported the campus was secure and no injuries were reported.

A school resource deputy initially heard a loud bang and a sudden scream coming from the discipline office, an arrest report shows.
According to Seminole County Public Schools, a student in the office became upset and threw a chair, striking the trophies in the room and causing a loud disturbance.
The noise caused some to think a gunshot had been fired.
“Early report of shot fired on campus is inaccurate,” the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office tweeted.
Due to the deputy’s “inability to rule out the possibility that a firearm had been used” at that time, the campus was placed on lockdown.
“The campus was immediately secured. Law enforcement officers quickly addressed the situation. All students and staff are safe, and campus operations will resume as normal shortly,” SCPS tweeted. “As always, the safety of our campuses is our top priority.”
The student, whose name and age has not been released, is facing charges for property damage and disturbing the peace by interfering with school administration functions.
