Deputies received a call later that day at 4:30 p.m. regarding a patient at a hospital with a gunshot wound to the hand. The victim stated he was robbed at the Greenway Trailhead and someone there was “possibly dead,” according to the sheriff’s office.

When deputies arrived at Greenway Trailhead, they found Cameron Cole Dalzell dead from a gunshot wound.

Deputies said during the investigation, Neal responded to the sheriff’s office and requested to speak to a detective.

It was determined that Neal and Dalzell, who were both armed, met with two individuals with the plan to rob them of marijuana, according to the sheriff’s department.

Deputies said Neal and Dalzell met with the two individuals in a vehicle with Dalzell sitting in the front seat and Neal sitting in the back seat. Dalzell pulled out a gun and pointed it at the driver, according to deputies. The driver also pulled out a gun and pointed it at Dalzell, investigators said.

Neal attempted to pull out a gun, also, but it was taken away by the other individual in the vehicle, deputies said.

The report said Dalzell and the driver started firing at each other, killing Dalzell and hurting the other man.

Neal ran away after his gun was taken away.

Neal is being held on a $100,000 bond at the Marion County Jail.
