Conor Fernandez, 25, was sent to the hospital following the crash on Sept. 16, where he ultimately died from his injuries.

“It is with a heavy heart that we mourn the loss of one of our own. On September 24, we lost our Firefighter Brother Connor Fernandez due to a result of a tragic off-duty motorcycle accident on September 16, which occurred in Altamonte,” Fire Chief Matt Kinley said in a statement on social media. “Firefighter Fernandez will be missed by our entire Department – especially in Battalion 1 C Shift where he served in the Altamonte and Apopka areas. Fernandez was a young man of only 25 years old who had chosen a life of public service and served the citizens of Seminole County since 2020. Deepest condolences, prayers and continued support go out to Connor’s mother Rebecca Thyssen and her family along with Tony Fernandez and his family from all of us at the Seminole County Fire Department. Everyone at the Seminole County Fire Department is respecting the privacy of the family during this extremely difficult time.”

Fernandez sustained serious, life-threatening injuries after the crash when he had a collision with another vehicle on West Lake Brantley Road and West State Road 436 in Altamonte Springs, according to the fire department.

Fernandez worked in the Battalion 1 area that covers Apopka and Altamonte Springs.

Fellow firefighters rallied around their coworker and organized blood drives and a GoFundMe page to help with expenses.

About 120 came out to the drives and donated 105 units of blood total, which is enough to save 315 lives, according to a Seminole County Fire Department spokesperson.
