ORLANDO, Fla. – After suffering a major water main break over the weekend, the city of Orlando on Tuesday lifted its water usage advisory to residents and businesses.

Orlando officials said its No. 1, 2 and 3 lift stations suffered the water main break on Sunday, causing an overflow of sewage into nearby lakes after Hurricane Ian brought record rain to the area.

“This storm brought severe flooding to about a dozen of our residential neighborhoods like we’ve never witnessed in our lifetime and it’s created unprecedented impacts,” Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer said Monday during an update.

A city spokesperson said Tuesday that “progress on emergency repairs to the sanitary system continues to be made by our Public Works staff.”

Despite the water usage advisory being lifted, the city is still asking residents and businesses to be mindful of water use.

“The high level of water in our wastewater system -- from the unprecedented rain and related groundwater intrusion -- will take much more time to recede to normal levels,” the city said.
