ORLANDO, Fla. – Fresh off the heels of opening a second location of his popular Pizza Bruno restaurant, Bruno Zacchini now has his sights set on opening a doughnut shop.

“I’ve been working on the idea for the concept for about a year and a half,” Zacchini said. “Just kind of getting ideas together.”

The shop will be called Dizzy Donuts, according to Zacchini, and will sit just a few doors down from the new Pizza Bruno on Edgewater Drive in College Park.

“It will be on the exact same plaza,” he said. “I want to say it’s like four or five doors down maybe — like next to the Graffiti Junction.”

Zacchini said the owners of Graffiti Junction had been using the space for seating but were planning to give it up.

“So, I called (the landlords) up and I said ‘Hey, this is what I want, can you do it’ and they said, ‘Yeah, sure, no problem.’ I said ‘OK, all right. I have no choice now. I got to sign the lease,’” he said.

Zacchini said the inspiration for Dizzy Donuts comes from doughnut shops he loves visiting in South Jersey and Philadelphia, such as Brown’s Restaurant and Federal Donuts.

“We’re only doing one type of doughnut. We’re only doing cake doughnuts and we’re doing those two different forms,” Zacchini said.

He added that there will be hot, made-to-order doughnuts that will be tossed in different toppings and then there will also be prepared donuts dressed in more elaborate flavor creations.

“I just want to really hone in on something that I think maybe people don’t know about,” Zacchini said.

The restauranteur said he wants to open Dizzy Donuts by December.

“That’s my hope,” he said. “I’m just like, every day checking my email waiting for the plan review to come back from the state. That’s all I’m waiting on. Once that’s in my hand, then it’s like off to the frickin races.”

If the first location of Dizzy Donuts is a success, Zacchini hopes to expand the concept.

“I think people will dig it and that’s my hope,” he said. “I hope this one is a super success so we can do more of them and do them around town.”
