ORLANDO, Fla. – In an effort to create a more sustainable community, the City of Orlando is giving free trees to residents.
This initiative is part of “Energy-Saving Trees,” a program supported by The City of Orlando Arbor Day Foundation, the Orlando Utilities Commission and the Florida Forest Service.

The goal is to educate citizens on how to reduce energy costs by planting trees on their properties.
“By providing residents with free trees to plant on their property, this is another way the City is transforming the urban environment to conserve, preserve and reuse valuable resources, ensuring a more livable Orlando for future generations to come,” according to the program’s website.
Residents that live within the city limits of Orlando can now order their free tree. If you are not sure if you qualify, click here.
Now, if you qualify, here are the trees available to order:
- Muskogee Crapemyrtle
- Paw Paw
- Purely Purple Black Diamond Crapemyrtle
- Sweetbay Magnolia
Orlando residents can order up to two trees to plant on their property. Also, the website will give a projection of how much energy residents will be saving with the tree they select.
