Police said the burglary happened at 700 Union Street in Kissimmee. The department did not say around what time the burglary happened.

According to a Facebook post from the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, money and other items were stolen from the Salvation Army.

“It takes a special kind of evil to do something against community partners who work tirelessly to serve the poor. We are on the lookout for the people behind this act,” the sheriff’s office wrote.

A Salvation Army spokesperson said the thieves were able to take some of the group’s kettles, which can hold hundreds of dollars. They say the Salvation Army raises 60% of its funding to help people throughout the year during the holiday season.

Still, the spokesperson showed some sympathy for the thieves.

“Our first call is to serve suffering humanity and that’s what we’re doing,” said spokesperson Natasha Player. “And those people who broke in, they are a part of that suffering humanity whether whatever pushed them to do that. But our hearts go out to them as well and if they need anything from the Salvation Army, the thing is we have to serve them as well.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the department at 407-836-3333.
