SANFORD, Fla. – A man attempting to carjack a Sanford bar employee early Thursday was shot and killed by the woman’s significant other, according to the police department.
Officers responded to George’s Tavern near U.S. 17-29 and 11th street around 2:20 a.m.

According to police, the bar employee, only identified as a woman, was leaving for the night and getting into her vehicle when she was ambushed by the man.
Investigators said the employee’s significant other was waiting nearby and saw the attack.
The significant other used a gun and shot the man, the department said. Officers said the man, later identified as 35-year-old Edward Alexander Barfield, was dead in the back parking lot when they arrived.
There are no charges pending for the employee or the significant other, according to police.
