Man dead, suspect arrested after shooting in Orlando, police say

Shooting happened at the 2800 block of West Arlington St.

ORLANDO, Fla. – A man was killed and a suspect was detained after a shooting in west Orlando on Friday, according to police.

Police said they were called to the 2800 block of West Arlington St. near the Maxwell Terrace Apartments, not far from the intersection of West Colonial Drive and John Young Parkway, around 5:20 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers said they found a man lying on the ground outside of an office. The victim, later identified as 26-year-old Zedekiah M. Lafayette, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A woman also suffered a gunshot wound, though she’s expected to survive, police said.

According to police, the suspect — 34-year-old Willie Shade — was located by responding officers and was taken into custody without incident.

According to a news release Sunday, an investigation revealed Shade was walking with Lafayette and another person when he threw the victim to the ground, shot him and ran away. Hours later, Shade returned to Maxwell Terrace and was taken into custody, police said.

Shade faces a charge of first degree murder with a firearm, records show.
