ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – An arrest warrant affidavit released Tuesday morning provides details in the Pine Hills shootings last week that killed a 9-year-old girl and an Orlando TV reporter and injured the girl’s mother and a TV photographer.
Keith Moses, 19, now faces additional murder and attempted murder charges. Previously, Moses faced a murder charge in the death of Nathacha Augustin, 38, who was shot and killed earlier the same day. According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Moses shot and killed Augustin around 11 a.m. and returned to the area hours later.
According to the arrest warrant affidavit, Moses went into a home near the area of the initial shooting and fatally shot 9-year-old T’yonna Major and injured her mother. He then shot and killed Spectrum News 13 reporter Dylan Lyons and wounded his photographer, Jesse Walden, according to deputies.
A timeline in the affidavit shows Moses entered a home on Harrington Drive through an unlocked back door around 3:53 p.m. and shot 9-year-old T’yonna. The girl’s mother, who was taking a nap, said she woke up to her daughter yelling, “He shot me,” as she ran into the bedroom, according to the affidavit.
The girl’s mother, whose name has not been released, said she heard two gunshots and felt a bullet hit her arm, the affidavit shows. The two hid in the bathroom until law enforcement officers arrived. The girl was able to tell her mother what the shooter looked like, according to the affidavit.
Minutes later, the affidavit said Lyons, 24, was in the passenger seat of a News 13 vehicle while Walden, 29, was getting camera equipment out of the trunk to set up for a live shot. Walden told deputies he saw Moses approaching the back of the vehicle and then opened fire, the affidavit said.
Walden fell to the ground and said Moses continued shooting at him before he started shooting at the vehicle, where Lyons was seated, according to the affidavit. Investigators said there were several bullet holes in the vehicle, including one through the driver’s window.
A nearby news crew rendered aid and was able to take video of Moses that was provided to investigators, according to the affidavit.
Officials said 911 calls for the shootings came in at 4:05 p.m. for Lyons and Walden and 4:08 p.m. for T’yonna and her mother.
According to deputies, an arrest warrant for Moses was obtained earlier in the day in the shooting of Augustin. Moses was found around 4:30 p.m. with a firearm in his pocket that was still hot to the touch, according to officials, and he was taken into custody.
Moses now faces three first-degree murder charges, two attempted first-degree murder charges and an armed burglary charge for the shootings of Augustin, T’yonna, Lyons, Walden and the girl’s mother.
