‘You never know what you’re going to get:’ Monster Jam preps underway in Orlando

Monster Jam returns to Camping World Stadium Saturday

ORLANDO, Fla. – Nearly 300 truckloads of dirt are being hauled into Camping World Stadium as the venue prepares to host Monster Jam on Saturday.

Workers began spreading out the soil Wednesday as the artificial turf field was covered and transformed into a racetrack and obstacle course.

Neal Kulp is with the dirt crew at Feld Motor Sports and said it would take two days to complete the track.

“We’re bringing it inside where we’re dozing it across the floor and getting all this flooring material locked in tight,” Kulp said.

With the track tailored to each venue, roughly 4,500 yards of dirt was brought in on Wednesday.

Part of the construction includes building ramps and obstacles for the field 12 monster trucks.

There will be cars for the trucks to crush,” Kulp said. “There will be five-foot ramps, six-foot ramps, back-flip obstacles, so there will be all kinds of stuff for excitement.”

Attracting crowds of more than 60,000 fans, Monster Jam is one of Orlando’s largest single-day stadium events.

The main events include skills, racing and freestyle competitions.

“Kids love it, adults love it.  It’s just unexpected entertainment.  You never know what you’re going to get,” Kulp said.

Monster Jam is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday at Camping World Stadium.
